How do you stay motivated?

How do you stay motivated?

What do you do on the days you just don’t want to go to the gym?

How do you stay so motivated?

I’m not seeing progress and want to give up, what do I do?

Well, here’s what NOT to do:

  1. Only have physical goals
  2. Do workouts you don’t enjoy
  3. Classify the gym as an “optional chore”
  4. Use someone else as your motivation

I’m sure you have a great idea of what you want your physique to look like: your “dream body”. You say, “oh I’ll finally be happy when…..”.

Let’s be clear, you won’t.

If you are not happy now, achieving whatever this “dream body” looks like will 100% not ensure any happiness.

“But Evana… isn’t the whole point of working out to look better?”

Part of the point? Yes. The whole point? Absolutely not – changing that mindset alone is essential if you want to “stay motivated”.

My top tips:

  1. Have smaller goals

Sure! You may have a huge weight loss goal or dream about a 315lb deadlift PR. Make sure to make room for the other milestones along the way. Make deadlines for a 275 deadlift, and then a 295 etc. This will help you stay motivated and gain confidence.

  1. Have OTHER goals

If you ONLY have physical goals, you will burn out. Examples of this could be ANYTHING that appeals to you: do 10 body weight pull-ups, hit a 315lb deadlift pr, run a 6-minute mile, etc etc.

  1. Do workouts you enjoy doing

Find a way to make working out fun, because if you don’t, you will always view it as “ugh, I have to go to the gym”. Make a new playlist, do some HIIT to get your heart rate up, bring a friend, whatever it is you need to do to have a good time.

  1. Classify the gym as a part of your daily schedule

The gym is not an “optional chore”. I view going to the gym in the same category as going to school/work. If you consistently skip class or call out of work, there are consequences. Your HEALTH is not optional.

  1. Inspiration vs. Imitation

Stop copying everything you see online. Sure, there may be a girl on IG that you LOVE. Her body is amazing. Her life is amazing. You want to be just like her! But be INSPIRED – do not imitate. You are not her. You are uniquely you and that is what makes you amazing. Just because SHE eats certain meals or does certain workouts DOESN’T mean those things will ensure that you look like her. Please be mindful that everyone’s genetics, finances, living situations, lifestyles, etc are all SO different.

Also, NO ONE is motivated all the time. We are all human.
